Our Story
Everyone has a story of why they “do what they do.”
Here is ours...
Faith. Family. Farm.
That is what Jennie always says, and those three words have carried us through some of the hardest and most humbling chapters of our lives.
We’re the Bradburys.
Tim and Jennie.
Parents to six incredible kids and caretakers to whatever foster children God entrusts to us.
We are the hands and hearts of New Magnolia Homestead.
Our family lives in Thaxton, a small township in Bedford County, Virginia. Here at the base of the breathtaking Peaks of Otter in the Blue Ridge Mountains, our homestead is more than a place to live.
It is where we are rebuilding our life.
It is our healing ground.
It is our “second chance.”
How It All Began
In 2022, while Tim was CEO and running a multi state healthcare company he had built from our dining room table and a beat up laptop, we started our homestead as a side dream. Something small. Something grounding. Something that brought us closer to the land, the Lord, and each other.
But in November of 2024, everything shifted.
Leadership changed, and the direction of the company moved in a way that no longer reflected the mission Tim had always held. In the process he found himself quietly “put on a shelf,” no longer included in the work he had poured so much of his life into. His calling to serve others first never changed, but the organization’s heart no longer aligned with that purpose. Watching something he built move out of his hands was heartbreaking and deeply humbling.
We mourned what we had lost.
A future we had planned.
A vision we had nurtured.
A company that once served thousands and employed hundreds.
And we were left with very little.
Our faith.
Our children.
A small piece of land.
And many millions of dollars in debt tied to a dream that slipped away.
It was painful.
It was confusing.
It was not the ending we expected.
But it became the beginning of something new.
We leaned in.
Not to escape the hardship but to grow through it.
We turned toward the soil and the animals, toward the quiet places where grief slowly turns into hope.
And we began again.
With our hands in the dirt and God at the center of it all.
A Homestead with Purpose
New Magnolia Homestead is a therapeutic foster care homestead. Every animal, every project, every product serves a purpose rooted in healing, hope, and hands on responsibility.
Our children, whether biological, adopted, or foster (some of whom are not pictured for privacy), are woven into daily life here. This is not just a farm.
It is their safe place.
Their learning place.
Their space to grow.
We raise rare and heritage livestock including registered Kunekune pigs, Critically Threatened Meishan pigs, and Katahdin sheep. Each animal was chosen not only for its sustainability and temperament but for the way it pulls us toward a slower, more intentional way of living.
Our oldest son, Caedon, proudly calls himself the “Farm Manager.”
And the truth is, he has earned it.
Jennie’s Heart
Jennie is the soul of our home.
An educator.
A homemaker.
A mother who knows how to create beauty in the everyday.
She bakes sourdough.
She tends the garden.
She teaches our daughters how to render tallow and make balm.
Her mission is simple and never changes.
Faith. Family. Farm.
Her journey into natural skincare began with our children’s struggles with severe eczema and sensitive skin. She searched everywhere for clean, effective solutions. She tried countless wellness lines, kits, and samples. At one point our trunk was filled with products from companies that made big promises but never felt right.
Nothing she tried matched what she hoped for. Too many chemicals. Too many fillers. Too many empty claims.
So we began creating or own.
What started as a necessity for our family has grown into Magnolia Bloom, our tallow, lard, and botanical based skincare line. Everything she makes is crafted with ingredients we grow or raise or source from people we trust.
Crafted by Hand and Rooted in Love
With Jennie and our daughters leading the way, we also launched Cozy Cottontail Candle Co, a collection of candles and home goods that reflect the warmth and simplicity of homestead living.
Every candle and product is made intentionally.
Every ingredient is chosen with purpose.
Everything reflects a piece of our story.
⭐ The Legacy Behind the Name
The name New Magnolia honors Magnolia Plantation in Scotland Neck, North Carolina. This land belonged to Tim’s family for generations, stretching back to the early 1800s. But Magnolia was more than a family property. Family history tells of it being a quiet refuge for enslaved people fleeing north, a hidden place of safety along the Underground Railroad.
That part of our heritage means more to us as the years go by.
It represents courage.
Compassion.
Restoration.
A shelter for those who could not help themselves.
Even though that land was eventually lost through division, the meaning behind it was never taken away.
And that is why we chose the name New Magnolia.
Just as our original Magnolia Plantation offered refuge and safety to people in desperate need, New Magnolia still carries that calling today. Although it might not have 5000 acres like our original Magnolia Plantation; Our homestead has become a place for foster children, struggling families, and the “least of these” who need a place to breathe again.
Jennie often says, “If this is our safe space, it can be that for others too.”
This is our way of continuing a legacy of shelter and compassion.
A place where the hurting can rest.
A place where those without a voice are seen.
A place where healing begins in simple, everyday moments.
Our prayer is that this land honors that legacy for generations to come.
Where We Are Now
We are not who we once were, and we are grateful for that.
The fall was painful.
It still is at times.
But the rebuilding has brought purpose back into our home.
Tim, the “recovering CEO,” now runs the homestead & stays home full time to care for our special needs adopted son who struggles very deeply with mental health and finding his place in the world. Jennie operates the homestead with steady hands and a heart full of love. Our children, and the foster children God places with us, are growing up on land where healing is just as important as hard work.
This homestead is not a trend.
It is not a hobby.
It is how we provide for our family.
It is our ministry.
It is our testimony in motion.
We share our life, the beautiful and the broken, because we believe there is power in being real.
